For 25 years, Seattle resident Gayle Waxon struggled with epilepsy and daily seizures. Because her seizures originated in the hippocampus – an area of the brain essential to memory – surgery could cause significant memory loss. Gayle learned that new surgical technique offered at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center – one of just four U.S. hospitals performing this procedure – could preserve her memory and eliminate her seizures.
