After giving birth to a baby, new moms go through many changes. You are learning how to be a new mother and are getting to know and care for your baby. However, you also need to take care of yourself. You will need plenty of rest, good nutrition and support during the first few weeks of the postpartum period.

In addition to the physical adjustment, many women experience emotional changes or symptoms during the postpartum period as well. Close to three-quarters of new mothers experience the baby blues. These are often mild and temporary symptoms, but sometimes can be signs of more serious conditions such as postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety or postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is important to recognize these symptoms so that you can speak to your healthcare provider and get the treatment you need.
