Comprehensive and Collaborative Urology Residency Program
As part of University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and in conjunction with Case Western Reserve University, the Department of Urology's mission is to enhance human health through excellence in medical education, biomedical research and clinical care.
Our Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Urology Residency Program is based on a strong foundation of both resident and medical student education. Since 1939, our program has trained urology residents for successful careers as both leaders in academic and private practice urology. University Hospitals Urology Institute faculty are committed to providing each graduate of our program with the fundamental skills necessary to begin their urologic career, and the tools necessary for continued growth and contribution to patients and our field throughout their entire careers.
Upon completion of training, our graduates have been aggressively recruited by competitive private practice groups and academia or matriculated into some of the most competitive fellowships available. Our program is well-known for producing more department chairpersons than any other urology department in the U.S.
Teaching Affiliates Provide Multiple Clinical Settings
Our residents have the opportunity to learn and practice in multiple clinical settings at some of the best teaching hospitals in the region and country. All residents utilize the staff and facilities of University Hospitals Health System, including University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, MetroHealth Medical Center and community facility University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center. All rotations take place at these hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio.
Research Provides Clinical Advancements for Urological Disorders
In addition to training the best and the brightest students and physicians, we are forerunners in the development of scientific research and clinical advancements for urological disorders. Each year, our department consistently ranks in the top 25 urology departments for most research funding by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Successful Careers in Urology
Graduates from our Urology Residency Program have broad exposure to various patient populations and hospital settings, including one of the top five children’s hospitals in the country, which makes our residents highly competitive within the field of urology. They also have the support of our former alumni, who are leaders in their respective fields, including:
