What You Need to Know Before Your Initial Plastic Surgery Consultation
During your initial consultation, your University Hospitals plastic surgeon will spend whatever time is necessary to respond to your questions and address all of your concerns. He or she wants to make sure you have all of the information you need to make an informed decision on the procedure you’re contemplating, with realistic expectations about the outcome.
Before your Consultation
- Please make a list of all the questions and concerns you want to discuss.
- Be sure you understand the answers to all of your questions, starting with whether you are a good candidate for the procedure you’re seeking. It’s especially important to fully understand the procedure, details about recovery and the realistic outcome you can expect.
- For more involved surgeries, plan to spend two to three hours at our facility. For laser procedure and injectables, your consultation will be about one to two hours.
During Your Consultation
After your visit with one of our plastic surgeons, the department photographer will take your photograph. All photographs are part of your medical record and are strictly confidential unless you give written permission otherwise.
Finally, you’ll be informed about available surgery dates that will accommodate your schedule. You will also meet with a Financial Consultant to discuss the fees involved in your procedure.
The initial consultation fee is from $120 to $240. For cosmetic procedures, you will pay this fee at the time of the consultation. This fee will be deducted from the cost of your surgery if the surgery is performed within 90 days of the consultation. For reconstructive procedures that are covered by insurance, you will be required to pay the co-pay at the time of the consultation. You will be responsible for the expenses your insurance does not cover. The cost of the consultation for minor injectable or minor laser procedures will be waived if it is performed the same day as the consultation.
