Francoise Adan, MD

“I inspire and empower individuals, organizations and colleagues to embrace and transform into their definition of wellness.”- Dr. Francoise Adan

Dr. Adan has witnessed and been impacted by the resilience of more than 4,000 patients and clients during her career, never ceasing to be amazed at the courage individuals possess to transform their own lives.

Francoise Adan was born in Italy and grew up in Belgium, always knowing that she wanted to be a physician. She studied family medicine in Belgium, earning a medical degree from the University Libre de Brussels, followed by three years working in the field of family medicine. She then immigrated to the U.S. in 1987, redirecting her intellectual energies to a focus in psychiatry. She completed a residency in Psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic from 1992-1996, was Board Certified in 1997, and became a U.S. citizen in 2008. “My multicultural background is an essential part of me, helping me to keep an open mind and to know that we are all connected,” says Dr. Adan.

In more than 25 years of practicing medicine, Dr. Adan has always practiced mind/body medicine, encouraging clients and patients to understand the connection between the mind, the body and the spirit. In her early years of medical practice she was quick to recognize the limitations of traditional medicine and to embrace the benefits of practicing with a more integrative approach, becoming a champion of holistic wellbeing. She specializes in three areas: stress management, work/life balance and the mind/body/spirit connection.

With an entrepreneurial spirit, Dr. Adan set forth to build a successful self-pay private practice of integrative psychiatry in Cleveland until she joined University Hospitals in July 2009. She is especially proud of her appointment by UH’s Senior Leadership to her current position as Medical Director of the Connor Integrative Medicine Network. With the credentialing of board certification by the American Board of Holistic and Integrative Medicine, she is leading a system- wide program where state-of-the-art medical care is blended with innovative, evidence based therapies and services.

Dr. Adan utilizes her gift for public speaking and networking, her contagious energy and her passion for integrative medicine to open doors for national and international workshops, including opportunities at the Chautauqua Institute and with the Anxiety Disorder Association of America. In 2010, she created a concrete tool for her clients and students when she wrote and recorded a guided meditation CD, “Let My Words Be Your Words.” She has been a guest speaker on both radio and television.

Considering herself an “eternal student”, Dr. Adan believes her patients and students are some of her best teachers. She has incorporated continued learning opportunities into her integrative approach to medicine, including earning a teaching certification in yoga through Deepak Chopra in 2007, acquiring a Women’s Leadership Certificate and a Coaching Certificate from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, and as of 2012, she is an Affiliate Instructor for CWRU.

Dr. Adan is also proud of her affiliation to Case Western University Medical School where she is an Assistant Professor and a member of the Steering Committee for the Medical School Women’s Faculty. In 2011, Dr. Adan received the YWCA Woman of Excellence award.
