Addiction Medically Assisted Services

Addiction Services And Support

At University Hospitals, we treat opiate/opioid and alcohol withdrawal, commonly referred to as medical detox, in a safe, private and anonymous in-patient hospital setting. Our patient centered and integrated care is based on individualized services. Patients are medically stabilized and connected directly to medication assisted treatment providers with no break in services.

University Hospitals Offers In-Patient Medication-Assisted Services

Admission to the program is voluntary and includes a comprehensive and personalized assessment, medical stabilization or detox, and continued medication assisted treatment upon discharge. Patients are able to be admitted to in-patient medical stabilization within 24 hours of calling during weekdays. Inpatient stays are typically three to five days.

Support Continues After Discharge

Patients going to a medication-assisted services provider are discharged on medications such as Suboxone, buprenorphine or Naltrexone when appropriate. Outpatient medication-assisted treatment appointments are scheduled for the same day of discharge or within 72 hours.Discharge appointments for long-term supportive care such as psychosocial needs are scheduled by coordinators and conveniently located in the patient’s own community. All follow-up appointments are planned with patients and scheduled prior to discharge, ensuring the continuity of care that is needed for each patient to successfully manage their chronic disease through addiction recovery.

Patients return home and resume their life with a solid long-term outpatient plan for success. Our licensed clinical addiction counselors stay in touch with patients after discharge to offer support and connect them to local resources, as needed, so they can sustain their new lifestyle.

UH offers inpatient medical stabilization, commonly understood and referred to as detox, at two convenient, community locations: UH Portage Medical Center and UH Geauga Medical Center. Both centers treat patients in a safe and confidential medical setting.
