Compassionate, Personalized Health Care for Seniors and Older Adults

University Hospitals Bedford Medical Center understands that the patient population in this region, and in the country, is aging. For this reason we offer many medical services designed to meet the specific, unique needs of the older adult.

Our geriatrics program brings together health care professionals from a variety of disciplines, each of whom understands the complex medical concerns older adults face and individualize care to address issues such as memory loss, decreased mobility, arthritis pain, and managing multiple medications.

UH Bedford Medical Center holds exemplar status from the nursing education program, NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) – the highest designation offered. The hospital also features the region’s first senior ER. Specialized emergency treatment for older adults is provided in an environment that includes softer lighting, safety rails, visual and hearing assistance devices, and mattresses that reduce pressure on the skin and back. At our Senior ER, patients have 24-hour access to physicians and nurses with high level, specialty training in senior care – addressing their physical, emotional and mental well-being within 30 minutes of arrival.
